About the Northern Film School

ep_stairsThe Northern Film School, part of Leeds Metropolitan University, provides pioneering film and television study in the North of England. A close relationship with the film and television industry in the North has been established and continues to provide students with valuable work experience and opportunities upon graduation.

The Northern Film School values collaboration with other filmmakers, but also recognises the need for active relationships with the wider community. Our students and staff are involved in many and varied projects and partnerships - including festivals, museums, artists, and production companies. Today, the Northern Film School can proudly boast of alumni making major award-winning contributions to the texture and palette of the film and television arena across the world.

We endeavour to create an environment of discovery and experimentation, underpinned with a strong foundation of technical competence and understanding of professional practice, to enable the individual student to flourish and achieve their potential. Emphasis is on practical filmmaking supported by theoretical and contextual study.

The Northern Film School is committed to innovation, and has developed a new MA Filmmaking course.
